A Letter to My Former Patients….
I want to personally thank you for allowing me to be part of your life and to share why I’m taking this next exciting step.
I love being a physician, and more specifically, I love being a family doctor as it allows me to know my patients on a deeper level than any other specialty. Thank you for allowing me into your families. Thank you for sharing with me your fears, your dreams, and your goals. My favorite part of family medicine has always been the stories that I collect. It has been my privilege to be by your side to celebrate your wins and grieve your losses. I think there is an idea out there that doctors don’t care about their patients as people. I want to tell you that nothing could be further from the truth. I have personally shed many private tears in response to your heartbreaks. Likewise, I feel invincible when we celebrate your triumphs together. Thank you for allowing me into this sacred space as a healer, a teacher, and a friend.
Over the past twelve years, I’ve grown increasingly frustrated by the barriers created by insurance — limits that block care, inflate costs, and erode the doctor–patient relationship. This is not the medicine that I was called to practice, and for that reason, I am leaving the traditional fee for service system to open Deserving of Joy: Direct Primary Care in Indianapolis.
In this model, insurance is removed from primary care entirely. Patients pay a simple monthly fee for unlimited visits — in person or virtual — along with discounted labs, medications, and imaging. You’ll still keep insurance for major medical events, but your everyday care will be transparent, affordable, and personal once again.
Many of you have been with me for years. Your trust has meant the world to me and it inspires me to keep growing in this calling. It is my sincere hope that you will join me once more as we redefine what healthcare can be — together.
With love and gratitude,
Kristy Mount, MD/PhD
